The University of Mary Music Departments performance of ‘The Music Man’

The lights dim, and music floats up into the air as the curtains draw back, and the spotlight shines onto the actors.  The University of Mary’s Departments of Dramatic Arts and Music performed ‘The Music Man’ over the weekend. The musical was performed at the Belle Mehus Auditorium, with showings offered on March 17, 18, and 19.  Tickets were $10 dollars and were free for university students, faculty, and staff who brought their MCards to the performance.

The shows were well attended according to Elena Paliakas, a sophomore, who said, “I heard so many people talk about going to the play in class, and the actual night I attended it was a full house.” Sarah Towey, a freshman, said, “The performance I went to was a very full theatre and many people I talked to on campus said they went to see the play.”

The audience came away from the performance with praise.  “I thought it (the show) was excellent. I thought all the characters were very engaging and believable.” Said Elena “The true authenticity of the acting and the characters were excellent. I’ve been to some shows where it (the acting) just seems forced.” Nicole, a student at the university, said, “I thought it (the show) was really fun and enrapturing. I really like how all of the actors were on the stage, and it wasn’t just one actor on stage the whole time.”  Sarah said, “I thought the performance was very well put together, engaging, and true to the story. I was impressed by the acting skill of the children involved in the production and choreography of the musical numbers.”
